Exterior Landscape Improvements, Collingwood Estate, Tower Hamlets, London

Brief: To assess the needs of the 'play' facilities, kick-about pitch and general external environment and within a limited budget, make a proposal, manage the manufacture and oversee the installation for new additions to improve the safety, use and appearance of the existing facility and surrounding area. 

Method: Using a bold design aesthetic, we created interventions that would make the 'play-scape' area a venue, with its own unique identity. Shapes for the new fencing around the children's play area were inspired by the traces left by activity and movement in play and games. Benches were designed to watch, picnic, lounge or skateboard over. Floodlighting meant the kick-about pitch could be used all year round, and two sculptural goal screens were added to help prevent footballs hitting the housing and the road.
